Seed Raising Workshop
11:00 – 12:00
We might be in lockdown, but Spring is still coming!  Join us for a virtual seed raising event, open to all MCG members. It will be pretty relaxed, so grap your cup of tea and bring your questions or tips for others.  The event will consist of two sections: 1. Instructions and tips from Jess (and anyone else who wants to contribute!) about how to grow plants from seed at home 2. Those who want to can stay on to virtually hang out while we all plant our seeds    During this event, we will learn about:  - The benefits of growing plants from seed - Planting in pots and transplanting vs. planting directly into the soil - Where to source seeds from - Planting depth for different types of seeds  - Alternatives to plastic pots (e.g. newspaper pots, containers, toilet paper rolls), so don't worry if you don't have any pots! - Tips for germinating seeds and keeping seedlings healthy at home   Materials you will need (collect from PCG or WBCG or BYO): - Seeds  - Seed raising mix - Pots or an alternative (e.g. newspaper, toilet rolls, egg cartons)   Both PCG and WBCG have some supplies for you to collect and use. f you would like to collect some materials from one of the gardens, please: - When you book your ticket (below), tell us in the 'details' section which garden you would like to collect supplies from  - Book a time slot to attend a garden to grab materials using our existing booking system. You must be within 5km of the garden to do this.  - Grab just a few seed packets, leaving enough for others (if we all raise a few varieties, we'll still have a nice big selection when we plant them out later on!) - Bring a container/bag for seed raising mix  - Follow standard hygiene rules when collecting materials, and as far as possible, touch only what you intend to take home - Take only what you need   PCG will be storing their materials in the greenhouse (seeds & seed raising mix) and in the swale area (pots). WBCG will be storing their materials near the shed. Here's a sneak peek at some of the varieties waiting for you at PCG...   The event will take place on Zoom, and meeting details will be emailed to participants closer to the date. Participants will also be sent a PDF with information, so please make sure to register your email address so you don't miss out. If you can't attend the event but would still like the info sheet, please email Jess at administrator@morelandcommunitygardening.org. When weather and restrictions permit, we hope to meet at the gardens again to plant the seedlings that we've all raised at home.    Questions? Contact Julia (julia.vanderoord@gmail.com) re. general event questions or Jess (administrator@morelandcommunitygardening.org) re. booking issues.
